AI hype (and before that Block Chain, Metaverse, IoT) resulted in an explosion of businesses stating they have AI capabilities or have AI products; few do, but the majority don’t. From an M&A and investments perspective it is critical to know if the target actually has the capability expected. Some have created excellent AI products. Some leverage AI tools for fantastic solutions and service offerings. Some have excellent business models and technology products that aren’t actually AI, but are still good investments. Some don’t have anything special, depends on linear scaling of people, and have creaking tech foundations and 3rd party dependencies, and are likely to cost much more than just the acquisition valuation. Just because a company or product is labeled “AI”, or any other tech label, doesn’t necessarily mean it is. Technology and digital IP due diligence is essential in AI hype to ensure valuations are objective and all post-transaction integrations and value creation investment is accurately accounted for. You need to clearly understand the true technical and functional capability, scalability (vertically and horizontally), IP ownership and exposure, 3rd party data and tech services dependence, licensing and infrastructure costs, tech skills and impacts on to be integrated. #techduediligence #duediligence #mergersandacquisitions #AI #valuations

When serving Large Language Models in production our goal usually is the fastest time to first token, the highest throughput, and the quickest time per output token. What does this even mean? In simple words, we want the model to generate text as fast as possible and for as many users as we can support. When we talk about inference speed here are the few metrics which are very important to know. 𝐓𝐢𝐦𝐞 𝐓𝐨 𝐅𝐢𝐫𝐬𝐭 𝐓𝐨𝐤𝐞𝐧 (𝐓𝐓𝐅𝐓): How quickly users start seeing the model's output after entering their query. Low waiting times for a response are essential in real-time interactions, but less important in offline workloads. This metric is driven by the time required to process the prompt and then generate the first output token. 𝐓𝐢𝐦𝐞 𝐏𝐞𝐫 𝐎𝐮𝐭𝐩𝐮𝐭 𝐓𝐨𝐤𝐞𝐧 (𝐓𝐏𝐎𝐓): Time to generate an output token for each user that is querying our system. This metric corresponds with how each user will perceive the "speed" of the model. For example, a TPOT of 100 milliseconds/tok would be 10 tokens per second per user, or ~450 words per minute, which is faster than a typical person can read. 𝐋𝐚𝐭𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐲: The overall time it takes for the model to generate the full response for a user. Overall response latency can be calculated using the previous two metrics: latency = (TTFT) + (TPOT) * (the number of tokens to be generated). 𝐓𝐡𝐫𝐨𝐮𝐠𝐡𝐩𝐮𝐭: The number of output tokens per second an inference server can generate across all users and requests.
